Prof. Poovorawan is currently the Director of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Virology, Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. He obtained the MD in 1974 from Chulalongkorn University and his specialization in pediatrics in 1978 from Chulalongkorn Hospital. In 1984, he became a Research Fellow in Paediatric Hepatology at King’s College Hospital Medical School, London. He is widely noted for his research in the fields of pediatric hepatology, viral hepatitis and virology, and is regarded as a subject expert on clinical virology both nationally and internationally. He has authored more than 480 publications and received numerous awards for his contributions to his fields of research.

Prof. Suwanwela pioneered the ‘Stroke Fast Track’ program and the use of thrombolysis as well as establishment of stroke unit in Thailand. She also had a leading role in the development of telestroke network in Bangkok for acute stroke management. Her research mainly focused on acute stroke care and stroke care system in Thailand. Recently, she is the principle investigator of a large-scale population based study of atrial fibrillation in Thailand. She is also interested in innovation and technology where she received grants for development of stroke homecare robot and AI for stroke subtype prediction with the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University.

Our teams consist of nearly 15 persons with several laboratory techniques (Flow cytometry, Con focal microscopy, Seahorse cell energy analysis, microbiome analysis, etc.). Our ultimate goal is to translate the knowledge from basic science to the bedside clinical practice.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krit Pongpirul is a health systems researcher, preventive, general, and emergency medicine clinician, as well as academic strategist. His expertise in Thai public and private health care sectors at organizational, national, and international levels has enabled him to explore both sickness and wellness aspects of human health. Following his report of the first Covid-19 case outside China in the New England Journal of Medicine, several works on the medical service, locally developed Covid-19 test kits, and vaccines as well as the involvement of the non-healthcare individuals such as Village Health Volunteers and flight attendants have been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals. His project proposal on wastewater-based bacterial, fungal, and viral microbiomes for Covid-19 received the Henry Boulard Public Health Award 2021. Also, his computer programming background also enables him to apply AI and Big Data in several national projects on communicable and non-communicable diseases including mass tuberculosis screening (DAC4TB)—that won Outstanding ICT Innovation Award at Asia Pacific HIMMS-Elsevier Digital Healthcare Awards 2019–as well as the ongoing nationwide skin cancer screening (DermDD), chronic kidney disease prevention and practice program (CP3), and AI-based personalized probiotics platform (AIP3).

Assoc. Prof Srimahachota interested in STEMI intervention and first established fast track system in Chulalongkorn Hospital and in Thailand since 1999. He is also interested in structural heart intervention and one of the team in development of new the devices such as device closure in ASD/PDA/VSD, Hydra valve for TAVI and Omega LAA occluder device.

Dr. Mekaroonkamol is specialized in Gastroenterology and Advanced Endoscopy. His scholarly clinical endeavor centers on the innovative diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic modalities for numerous digestive diseases, particularly on acute pancreatitis, obesity medicine, and gastric per-oral endoscopic pyloromyotomy (GPOEM), a novel endoscopic procedure to treat gastroparesis. He has published in many leading tier 1 journals in the field. His ongoing randomized controlled trials include studies on novel therapies for severe pancreatitis, preventive measures to reduce post-ERCP pancreatitis, and peroral endoscopic myotomy for achalasia. Conceptualizing project will focus on AI in Gastroenterology, Medical education on simulator-based endoscopy training, and bariatric endoscopy.

My group and I has a focus on Immunology of HIV, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections, and more recently SARS-CoV-2. In basic science aspects, we aim to identify mechanisms which people living with these viruses may use to protect or control the infections. Information acquired from our studies can be translated into (prophylactic and therapeutic) vaccine development. We also work on “translational” research area where we develop suitable T cells for treating patients with cancers. These malignancies include nasopharryngeal carcinoma ( cancer of the nasopharynx), T/NK cell lymphoma (a kind of white blood cell cancer), and breast cancer. At the time-being we are running proof-of-concept EBV-specific T cell therapy in Thai patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. We have also been successful for development of CD19+ CAR-T cells the cells of which was approved by US FDA in 2017 to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The treatment, though very effective, is not affordable ($475,000) by almost all of Thai patients and others from poor countries. The CAR-T-cell treatment established in our laboratory would provide otherwise unaffordable therapy for Thai leukemic patients and those from neighboring countries. This state-of-the-art platform help us to develop other CAR-T cells targeting at HIV/AIDS aiming for cure and EBV-associated malignancies. We currently put our effort into COVID-19 research in order to answer two important questions: 1) what is the immune correlate to COVID-19? And 2) Whether people previously vaccinated with inactivated COVID-19 vaccine are boosted with more “potent”vaccine and what are the safety and immunogenicity profiles?

Asst. Prof Saran is an orthopaedic surgeon specialized in orthopaedic trauma and adult reconstruction. He is the pioneer and director of the “Hip Fracture Fast Track” program in King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. His clinical research focused on surgical anatomy, novel surgical techniques, biomechanics study and geriatric trauma. He also achieved Ph.D. in biomedical engineering and currently performing various researches in collaboration with faculty of engineer, Faculty of pharmacy and Biochemistry departments. His non-clinical research focused on medical instrument invention, biomaterials, infection control modalities, 3D printing in medicine and controlled release medication.

My current research and development projects are about patients with dementia, patients with depression that have other medical conditions, adapting current wearable technology to help older patients (e.g. smart watch and VR), and evaluating the use of repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in patients with depression.

Dr. Suwatchareeporn Rotcheewaphan is a lecturer of Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. Currently, she is a director of Microbiology laboratory at Bhumisiri Mangkhalanusorn Building and Mycobacteriology laboratory, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. Her research focuses on the development of diagnostic methods for bacterial and mycobacterial infections, drug susceptibility testing, and the study of circulating mycobacterial strains in Thailand by using new and high throughput molecular techniques.

Much of Dr. Thanapornsangsuth’s work is translational and focuses on neurodegenerative diseases embracing the core concepts of protein misfolding, propagation and downstream neuroinflammation. Being a clinical neurologist by training, he aspires to developing biomarkers that not only truly reflect the essential defining aspects of these diseases but also are clinically meaningful, easily applicable and require minimal resources. His current projects use seeding assays and mass spectrometry.

Dr. Chatchai Nopvichai pioneered the novel uses of Multi-Omics techniques, especially Mass Spectrometry System for medical purpose. His team, “ARDNI” at Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Health Science Centre is a consortium of multi-disciplinary teamwork including physicians, medical technologists, scientists, and bioinformaticians to develop the next generation of biomarkers measurement and diagnosis techniques, also the finding of novel bioactive molecules under the conceptual framework “From Bench to Better Life”. Any research proposals/ideas are welcome at his laboratory.

Dr. Sainamthip graduated from Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and recieved Board of Oncology from the Royal College Physicians of Thailand. He is now a lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology. He is a researcher at the CU-stem cell and cell therapy research center and also working along with Center of Excellence in Systems Biology. During his residency, he recieved The European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) Young Investigator full bursaries award for top abstract presentation in London 2020. His research field includes cancer biology, clinical application of well-known and novel therapy in cancer organoid model and integrated epigenetic biomarkers in circulating cell-free DNA of cancer patients.

Dr Einapak Boontaveeyuwat qualified in Medicine at the Chulalongkorn University which was also where she received her M.D. in 2005. After general medical training in Nakhonratchasima (2006-2009) and a period of research in Siriraj Hospital in clinical treatment innovations including radio frequency (2008-2009), she undertook dermatology training in Siriraj Hospital where she developed an interest in photodermatology (2009-2013). She therefore went on to complete a clinical fellowship in Photobiology with Professor Pravit Asawanonda at the Division of Dermatology, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand where she has started an appointment as Consultant Dermatologist and also Clinical Lecturer since November 2015. After another period of clinical research and practice in photodermatoses, photodiagnosis and phototherapy in Photodermatology unit, St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s Hospital, London, UK (2015-2018), she has resumed her current appointment as Consultant Dermatologist and Clinical Lecturer at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital and Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University since November 2018. Dr Boontaveeyuwat has clinical and research interests in photosensitivity diseases particularly in xeroderma pigmentosum, porphyrias and actinic prurigo, photodiagnosis, phototherapy including heliotherapy and photodynamic therapy. Dr Boontaveeyuwat has been ambitiously working on Sunrise Phototherapy Network by King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital which will offer all the areas in Thailand our exquisite expert services under tele-consultation, RECKON clinic along with safe guided natural sunlight treatments, Self-Heliotherapy in TH (SHOT), Daylight-Photodynamic therapy (Daylight-PDT), and our invented home light based devices (Home PhoD).

Dr. Doungkamchan received her medical degree from Chulalongkorn University in 2012 and was assigned to a lecturer position at the department of Anatomy since 2014. She received PhD in molecular biology and developmental biology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, USA in 2020. She also continued for a brief postdoctoral training on the same research focus of spermatogonial stem cell and infertility. The ongoing research project includes fertility preservation in transwomen. We will explore the need, expectations and perspectives of transwomen towards fertility preservation procedures. Student will also have a chance to examine mechanisms of infertility to determine appropriate fertility preservation measures for transwomen.

Dr. Chindanai Hongsaprabhas is an orthopaedic surgeon specialized in musculoskeletal tumor and general orthopaedic surgery. His research focused on oncological and functional aspects of musculoskeletal tumor surgery, novel surgical techniques, computer assisted surgery, and innovative 3-D orthopaedic implants. He was invited to share experiences and presentations in many international academic meetings in the past 10 years.

Dr. Itthipanichpong received medical degree from the Chulalongkorn University, completed four years of training in orthopaedics and one year in sports medicine fellowship at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. His clinical interests are hip, knee and shoulder conditions included tendon tear, joint instability, traumatic injury, degenerative change and replacement surgery. Common diseases found in his clinic are rotator cuff tear, ACL injury, meniscus injury, shoulder instability and activity-related musculoskeletal pain. He is now working on many research projects and creates many surgical techniques for arthroscopic surgery. He is also working on a Ph.D project at at the department of biomedical engineering, Chulalongkorn university.

Dr. Piriya Wongkongkathep specializes in cancer multi-omics and personalized medicine. His research interests include cancer neoantigen discovery using multi-omics approaches, such as whole exome sequencing, RNA sequencing, and mass spectrometry-based proteomics to design the personalized treatment for cancer patients. Currently he is responsible for the first cancer neoantigen vaccine phase I clinical trial in Thailand at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. The aim is to stimulate mutation-specific immune responses to target cancer.

Dr. Warinya Chemnasiri has a professional experience across academia and industry developing new products from design to mass production. Her previous works include design, development, and fabrication of optical sensor prototypes with UI software and new telecommunication product development for autonomous car. With extensive experience in nanomaterial and sensors, her research interest involves smart material and sensors in healthcare and medical applications, and beyond towards innovation projects in this area. She is currently ScII Academic Director and Lecturer at BAScii program, where she is building an innovation ecosystem in line with SDG #9 (Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure), as well as a fellow of the Innovative Teaching Scholar Program (Stanford University).

Dr. Ronpichai Chokesuwattanaskul is a cardiac electrophysiologist, arrhythmia doctor, who is eager in the concept of collaboration and team players philosophy to generate innovation for community. HIs primary interest area is general cardiology, EKG, invasive procedures, AI, data science, bioinformatics, and data management. Other than clinical interest and teaching experiences, his works have been published in prestige journals, on average 10 publications per year in the past few years in addition to an extensive collaboration with faculties outside hospital including ivy league universities. He also plays role as academic editor of PLOS ONE journal.

Dr. Jakapat completed Internal medicine residency training program from Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham, MA. He became a transplant infectious diseases specialist after a 3-year training in MD Anderson Cancer Center and University of Texas at Houston. He started his career path as faculty member in Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in 2016 and established transplant ID consultant service for in-patient setting as well as specialized clinic for out-patient.

Dr. Hiransuthikul is a neurologist and a lecturer at the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, and a NIH D43 CHIMERA programme fellow. His research focuses on neuroepidemiology and clinical neurology, particularly neuroHIV. He has also been working extensively in sexually transmitted infections and gender-affirming care among men who have sex with men and the transgender population.

Dr.Nattawan holds a MSc in audiovestibular medicine with honour from University College London Ear Institute. Her MSc work focused on developing a hearing screening programme for the subacute stroke unit at the National Neurology and Neurosurgery Hospital (NHNN), Queen Square in London, where she also held a research fellow post.
She later continued her PhD in Neuroaudiology and Audiovestibular medicine, focusing on cognitive evaluation of hearing-impaired older adults. Her PhD was part of the project for hearing stimulation among the mild cognitive impairment population to prevent dementia. After her PhD, Dr.Nattawan holds an honorary senior fellow post at UCL Ear institute. She supervises post-graduate students from UCL and (undergrad/postgrad) from Chulalongkorn university. She currently holds several international fundings from the European Union Federation (Horizon Europe), The Royal Academy of Engineering (UK), The British Council (UK). She is also selected by the Thai and UK governments for the Thai-UK world class university consortium to support Chulalongkorn university in academic and research collaboration with the UK.

Dr. Pakanat graduated Doctor of Medicine and Board of Internal Medicine from Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University. He has always been interested in research with experience abroad at Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Center of Regenerative Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University. His research interests are cost-effectiveness analysis, disease modeling and meta-analysis. He is currently working with the Department of Medicine to establish a cost-effectiveness research community at the Faculty of Medicine.

After graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, I worked as a teaching assistant before going to residency training on nuclear medicine. After becoming a board-certified nuclear medicine physician and having learnt about how physiological process in human body can be elegantly visualized using radiotracers, I hope to encourage medical students an any physician alike to recognize the importance of basic science and enhanced their learning experience.

Dr. Prooksa Ananchuensook, MD, MSc., graduated Gastroenterology fellowship program at the faculty of medicine, Chulalongkorn University. She is interested in hepatology and continues clinical and translational research on hepatitis C, hepatitis B nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma, and liver transplantation.
